Canadian Brass Ensemble to Perform at QOHS

On April 17 at 7:30 p.m., the Quince Orchard High School (QOHS) Symphonic Band and Pritchard Music Academy (PMA) Honors Brass Ensemble will perform with the world-renowned Canadian Brass at QOHS.?The PM Brass includes players from QOHS, Lakelands Park Middle School, Rachel Carson Elementary School and several other schools in the community.

World-renowned quintet Canadian Brass will perform on April 17 at 7:30 p.m. at Quince Orchard High School (QOHS).

Canadian Brass, founded in 1970, currently consists of founding member Chuck Daellenbach on tuba, Christopher Coletti and Brandon Ridenour on trumpet, Eric Reed on horn, and newest member Achilles Liarmakopoulos on trombone. Its discography includes over 100 albums with repertoires featuring Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, marches, holiday favorites, ragtime, Dixieland, Latin, jazz, big band, Broadway, Christian, as well as popular songs and standards.

A portion of the proceeds from the concert will benefit the music departments at RCES, LPMS and QOHS. Canadian Brass will also lead a master class with the Pritchard Music Academy Honors Brass Ensemble in preparation for a joint performance by the two groups.

?Baby? Arrives at Arts Barn Theatre

In partnership with Rockville Musical Theatre, the Arts Barn presents ?Baby,? a pop/rock musical comedy by Sybille Pearson with music by David Shire and lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. The show runs April 13 ? 29, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Admission is $18, $16 for city residents. This show is intended for mature audiences and contains anatomical references. Parental guidance is suggested.

?Baby? brings together three very different couples at different stages of their lives, all experiencing the painful, rewarding and agonizingly funny consequences of expecting a child.?Unmarried college students Lizzie and Danny are just starting their adult lives together. Thirty-somethings Pam and Nick desperately want a child, but are having trouble conceiving. Middle-aged parents Arlene and Alan are looking forward to seeing their last child graduate college when a night of unexpected passion brings an astonishing surprise.

Arts Barn Productions Honored

Two Gaithersburg Arts Barn productions, Montgomery Playhouse?s ?Stones in His Pocket? and Damascus Theatre Company?s ?Little Shop of Horrors? earned a total of five 2011 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors awards last month.?

?Stones? honors included outstanding direction, outstanding lead actor (two), and outstanding play.? ?Little Shop? won for outstanding set decoration ? musical.?
