ARDEN HILLS, Minn. ? Bethel University began its 2013 men's indoor track and field season Saturday with the three-team Bethel Open at Bethel's Sports and Recreation Center. With many Royal competitors out of the country for interim classes, Bethel still managed to compete exceptionally against conference foe St. Olaf and Rockford College.
?
Matt Davis captured a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.09 in the final heat; however, it was teammates Gavin Woodland and Anthony Puckett right behind him with times of 52.36 and 52.45, respectively.
?
The one mile run belonged to 2012 outdoor track and field All-American and national qualifier in the 2012 cross country meet, Zach Haskins. Haskins outlasted all 22 competitors with a time of 4:24.38?edging the next closest runner (an unattached Bethel graduate) by just .67 seconds. Haskins came back to demolish the rest of the field in the 3000-meter run with a final time of 9:10.23. Bethel's Brent Schultz came in second with a time of 9:31.01.

Ian Moore was crowned with the top spot in the high jump with a height of 1.95 meters, while Anthony Puckett continued his success in the pole vault with his highest vault at 3.95 meters.
